About us
Our History
Research and discovery of new drugs is often lengthy, costly, and in many instances, inefficient. Although many effective treatments may exist within the wide array of existing FDA approved drugs, there isn’t a systematic approach for finding new uses for existing drugs to treat diseases for which they were not originally developed.
Two parents, both frustrated with the lack of treatments available for their own children, realized there was a lack in personalized and ineffective treatments for a wide range of human diseases. They joined together to form Intellimedix in hopes of finding a more effective method of diagnosis and treatment.
Our Mission
Intellimedix develops innovative approaches to accelerate the discovery and development of new treatments for known human diseases. The company, headquartered in Atlanta, GA is guided by the principle of open innovation. Intellimedix works closely with patients and their doctors, non-profits, and academic institutions in order to promote the free flow of knowledge and information for the benefit of all. Intellimedix has teamed up with world-class experts in the fields of systems biology, computer science, and genetics.
Our Capabilities
Our core strategy is to leverage our innovative technologies and models to efficiently screen and validate large numbers of compounds against molecular/genetic targets known to cause a given disease. The goal is to identify promising drugs for many diseases with common targets by repurposing existing FDA approved drugs and discovering new molecular entities. We also utilize our gene sequencing capabilities and high-throughput drug screening to provide precision medicine services to individual patients.
Drug Repurposing & Discovery
We seek to find new uses for existing drugs. To achieve this, we run the compound through our in silico screen to find unknown binding sites. This sheds light on the condition or disease the drug can be repurposed to treat. Drug repurposing not only extends the life of a drug, but it also shortens the timeline of development. This saves time and money, and gets patients the treatment they need faster.
Our proprietary systems biology algorithms are industry leading and capable of predicting structures of a large portion of the human proteome. This allows for high-throughput screening of drugs. Using this technology we discover and develop new compounds that bind to the targets of interest.
Precision Medicine
Using advanced technology, we sequence patients to identify mutated genes causing a disease as well as any genes modifying the disease. These genes serve as targets for our in silico screen where we identify compounds that bind to them, which can help determine the most efficacious treatment option that has minimum adverse side effects. This saves time and money spent on treatments that don’t work.
The data obtained from the gene sequencing also yields other important information. For example, the results can tell us how the patient will metabolize various drugs or what genetic mutations they carry that could cause diseases/disorders in their children.
Summary
By sequencing an individual’s genome, we decipher the genetic code for that person’s proteins and can determine which proteins are altered. By investigating exactly how the underlying mutations alter specific proteins and lead to disorders, we can find the most effective drugs to treat any diseases caused by those mutations.
We employ our advanced computational and data mining algorithms to create a database of drugs and their binding protein targets. Our technology predicts new applications for thousands of FDA-approved drugs based on experimental drug-protein interactions and provides a more complete picture of a given chemical compound and how it interacts with specific genes, including its protein targets, side effects, and toxicity.
This comprehensive understanding helps us suggest the most effective compound to treat a patient’s genetic disease in a less expensive and accelerated manner than traditional diagnostic methods. Through a thorough genetic analysis, Intellimedix scientists can recommend the most effective treatment options to doctors for their patients in an individualized and personal manner.
